When Tulane created the Center for Public Service, the university aligned with my vision and values. I saw Tulane in a completely different way. Tulane became more than just a university but a vehicle to improve the lives of the New Orleans community. When Hurricane Katrina left so much damage in its wake, I felt an obligation to give back to the New Orleans community. I believed that the the people of New Orleans, who watched over an 18-year-old kid from New Jersey, deserved better treatment after the storm. That was when myself and two friends created the Klene Up Krewe. This group of volunteers continues to work in New Orleans helping the city recover, rebuild and renew post Katrina. To date we have brought over 400 volunteers to New Orleans, providing over 8,000 hours of service to New Orleans. If it was not for the Tulane Center for Public Service, we would not know where the help was needed most.
